Respected real estate blogger Candy Evans asked me to do a story on what effects, if any, Stonewall’s academic rating drop might have on the market for existing home sales in the school’s attendance zone.
Community Contribution Lake Highlands was treated to the first community Oktoberfest Oct. 1 sponsored by the Exchange Club of Lake Highlands. The festival took place at the Lake Highlands Town Center site. The weather was beautiful the entire day and it is estimated that more than 4,500 people attended.
Community Contribution The J.L. Long Middle School cross country team traveled to Carrollton Christian Academy Oct. 1 to compete at the CCA Invitational. By Bruce Felps Stonewall Jackson Elementary School plans a field trip for Oct. 25-28 for fifth-grade students to visit Camp Grady Spruce. The trip, called stEEP, will teach kids ecology and environmental lessons, and school organizers hope for 100 percent attendance. Community Contribution The Lakehill Preparatory School varsity volleyball team started district play Sep. 13 against Fairhill and won in three straight sets. Amanda Boles led the team in kills with 12.
By Bruce Felps In the end, Woodrow bested Conrad High last night, 42-34. The game teetered back and forth with the Wildcats taking a 1-point lead in the third quarter on a Damian Garcia point-after conversion after Conrad missed its previous attempt.
Community Contribution The Woodrow Wilson freshman football team, sometimes called “Wildkittens,” proved their mettle by beating Conrad High freshmen, 14-0, last night. The junior varsity team also won, 22-12.
By Bruce Felps J.L Long Middle School organizers need more, even more volunteers to help make next week’s Long Run a success. The 15th annual Long Run takes place Oct. 6, starting and finishing at the school.
Community Contribution Through the fundraising efforts of the Stonewall Jackson PTA, the school upgraded this year to a new white “blacktop” on which students play and learn.
