Charging Up the Hotrod Scene
Community Contribution
As gas prices continue to frustrate consumers in this economy, some people have decided to try a “greener” approach not only to better the economy but also the environment.
Colin Stanley, an architect on the Design Applications team at Corgan Associates Inc. and a resident of the Casa Linda area, accepted the challenge to build his own electric car for the National “Motor Verks” contest, sponsored by Electric Vehicle Television.
As one of nine finalists, and the only one from Texas, Stanley’s design, was chosen out of 955 contestants’ for the chance to win $20,000 worth of building components to construct an electrical vehicle.
A winner will be selected based on the highest number of votes from the EVTV contest site. Voting ends Aug. 31 to select the most successful design.
Corgan pursues multiple sustainable projects in professional settings, so it’s no surprise Stanley extends an environmentally conscious attitude toward designs outside of work. As an architect specialized in building information modeling, Stanley also has a passion of rebuilding, maintaining, and restoring vehicles.
A strong believer in the transition to electric vehicles from conventional, he is dedicated to creating his very own alternative to petroleum-based transportation.
His vision is to create his vehicle for the hotrod scene. Stanley wants to build the electric vehicle to show that it is possible to be clean and oil-independent, while staying true to the hot rod ethos.
By building this vehicle, Stanley aims to create a blend of beauty and electric technology to capture the attention needed from both the electric vehicle market and the custom hotrod community.
