Stepping off Independence Day

By Bruce Felps

During the course of the year the White Rock Racing organization puts together no fewer than one and a half dozen — that would be 18 — foot races.

Independence Day happens to provide the occasion for one of the group’s competitions.

The Flagpole 8K hits the starting line at 7:30 a.m., July 4, at Norbuck Park.

Online registration closed Tuesday, but on-site registration continues at the Mockingbird Lane RunOn! location, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., July 1; 10 a.m.-7 p.m., July 2; and 10 a.m.-3 p.m., July 3.

The course starts at Norbuck — Northwest Highway construction prevents it from starting at the namesake location across the street — and heads south along East Lawther Drive, past the Big Thicket, the Bath House Cultural Center, and makes a U-turn at about Tiffany Way back to Norbuck.
