Watch rockets’ red glare

From last year's country club fireworks show — File Photo

Dallas Country earlier today issued a 90-day burn ban that covers aspects such as fireworks, which presumably includes dealings inside the Commissioners Court.

OK, seriously, the fireworks ban extends to private use not the big professional pyrotechnical shows like the one emanating forth on the Fourth from Lakewood Country Club.

I spoke with club General Manager Ray DeTullio a bit ago, and he said that show goes on as usual Monday night about 9-ish, give or take with dusk.

If you’re not a member of the country club there are still places from which to watch, you just have to time your arrival to ensure a comfy vantage point.

Whole Foods likely has a gathering planned, and we’ll have confirmation on that as soon as the representative responds to the e-mail message I sent. The streets surrounding the country club usually are lined with cars, particularly Country Club Circle and La Vista Drive.

I’ll reveal my watching secret. I park at the lot across Abrams Road from the country club outside the front doors of Ali Baba. I do so about 6:30-7 p.m., walk to the other side of the center, have dinner and a Stella or two at Cock and Bull, then return to the car about 8:45.

That plan has served me well for years. Don’t take my parking place.
