Hillside Prepares to Howl
By Bruce Felps
Merchants at Hillside Village shopping center wanted to get in on the White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration fun and help out homeless pets in the process.
They put their heads together and came up with the inaugural installment of Howl at Hillside, a four-hour event featuring adoptable dogs, pet supplies and services, vendor tables and booths, a celebrity photographer-author, and food.
It happens from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., May 14, throughout the shopping center parking lot, and benefits the events included in the Comerica White Rock Lake Centennial Celebration.
“As local merchants and residents of the White Rock Lake community, we wanted do something to celebrate the centennial and give a little something back to the community we love. Taking care of our park and our pets seemed like the right thing to do,” said Jane DeNike, owner of Ditto Boutique and co-chairwoman of the event.
Photographer David Woo of the Dallas Morning News and creator of “Top Dogs and Their Pets” — of course Kinky Friedman would have a pig — will be on hand to sign copies of the book. Dogs from Dallas Animal Services, Metroplex Mutts, DFW Rescue Me, and Operation Kindness also will be out making cute-eyes at their prospective new humans.
A certain community news website also will be there — hi — so cruise by and say, um, hi.
