Growing a Stronger Community

William Lipscomb Elementary School tomorrow plants the seeds for a new learning garden.
The establishing event takes place at 8 a.m., Jan. 29, at the East Dallas campus, when students, faculty, parents, and community volunteers lay the groundwork.
The opening dedication ceremony occurs at 11:30 a.m.
Grants from Real School Gardens and Whole Foods Market helped make the newest East Dallas learning garden a reality.
Whole Foods donated a portion of $25,600 — raised during a “Community Giving Day” fundraiser during which the grocer set aside 5 percent of one day’s sales at seven stores for school benefits — to the Lipscomb project.
Whole Foods-Lakewood staff also will invest a little sweat equity in the project. According to a news release, “team members from the natural grocer’s nearby Lakewood store will pitch in to help install the new school garden. Throughout the afternoon, volunteers will work in teams to plant seedlings, shape perennial beds, spread compost, and fill a pond.”
