Que Syrah, Syrah
By Bruce Felps
A rare bottle of wine recently arrived in the neighborhood.
A mere six bottles of Charles Smith Royal City Syrah made it to Dallas wine and spirits shops, and one landed at Kindred Spirits.
The reason for the varietal’s scarcity is the 100 rating it received from the Wine Enthusiast and the 98 bestowed by Robert Parker.
Some shops that did receive the wine plan to capitalize by auctioning off the grape at inflated prices, according to Kindred Spirits proprietor Jon Whitaker. Kindred Spirits, though, plans a more fair system.
Whitaker will conduct a drawing to determine who wins first purchase rights to the Syrah.
Customers who wish to enter can do so at the time of a transaction by filling out a drawing entry form at the checkout desk. The drawing takes place Friday, and Whitaker will notify the winner the next day, Dec. 4.
Good luck.

Kindred Spirits will sell to the winner for regular retail, not a jacked up auction price.
