Shared FUEL, a nonprofit group out to spread the sustainable green philosophy, hopes to educate and motivate people about the consequences of trashing White Rock Lake and its environs.

The group, led by Lakewood resident Annemarie Manek, sponsors a photo exhibit — running Jan. 8-April 17 at the Bath House Cultural Center’s White Rock Lake Museum — called “Talkin’ Trash.”

According to B.J. Ellis, event coordinator, “The purpose of this exhibit is to encourage dialogue about the harsh realities our lake habitat faces daily. The show blends the artistic sensitivity and environmental awareness of the impact of human nature on the lake through the camera’s eye.”

The pair recently put out a call for professional and amateur photographers to participate in the show. Prospective exhibitors should submit one or two digital photos of trash and its effects on wildlife for consideration. The deadline for submissions comes up Dec. 8.

Photos can be either color or black-and-white, 16 inches by 20 inches or 18 inches by 24 inches, vertical or horizontal.

Twelve images go on display during the show, and a special reception with the contributing photographers is scheduled Jan. 29 from 7-9 p.m., at the Bath House.  The reception is free and open to the public.
