Vinny Flies the Coop
by Bruce Felps
A good friend and office-space mate just sent an e-mail message about Vinny, her pet cockatiel.
Vinny got out Sept. 2 and — for a while, at least — stayed in the vicinity of her home, yes, Vinny’s a female, in Uptown.
As my friend said, though, Vinny has wings and could end up about anywhere.
Vinny’s white, albino, in fact, and quite friendly toward people. She’ll perch on a finger if given a chance.
E-mail word of a sighting to my friend, please.

Can you include things that might help novice bird folks know how to recognize her? Things like what sounds she makes, what words she says. Have you tried to ‘lure’ her with sounds she recognizes as coming from you? A neighbor’s African Gray flew out once. They roamed the alley playing the ring of their cellphones – because she would always echo the sound back. If I recall correctly, it’s how they located her. I know my starling loves to listen to the band Incognito. I’ve always thought that if she got spooked and flew outside, that I’d set up a boombox with her favorite music and her cage where she could see it. I wish you the very best of luck.
