Problem Branching Out

by Bruce Felps

A community meeting convenes Tuesday evening about Oncor and its tree-trimming policies around power lines in Lakewood.

It’s been a touchy subject for awhile now, and Oncor even tried instituting a pilot program in Lakewood to mitigate disagreements between electric-service customers, their trees, and Oncor tree-trimming contactors.

Well, the parties involved conduct a little sit-down starting at 5 p.m., Sept. 7, at Northridge Presbyterian Church.

On the agenda: the 10-foot-by 4-foot swath Oncor tree-trimmers cut between the foliage and power lines, and concerns of residents that the process and results are, well, a little draconian.

According to an e-mail message sent forth by a group called Save Dallas Trees, the pruning, hacking, and whacking should recommence this week.
