Taking in Sadie

By Bruce Felps

A recent e-mail message informed of a rescued female Lab-mix dubbed Sadie for the time being.

A neighbor picked her up from a busy intersection near Abrams Road, just north of Mockingbird Lane. Sadie weighs about 50 pounds, looks from her photos to be all black, and is about a year old.

The rescuer took her to a veterinarian who pronounced her free from heartworms and prescribed preventive medicine. She’s scheduled to be spayed at some point today.

Sadie wore no collar or tags when she was picked up, and the vet scan for a microchip turned up negative. Her rescuer said Sadie cringes when a male stands over her and reaches down to pet her, which might indicate past abuse.

In the words of Sadie’s rescuer, “She’s very friendly with other dogs, bamboozled by cats, affectionate with people. In spite of the suspected abuse, she is not at all aggressive, rather a little shy, with a face and eyes to melt your heart.”

Contact Sadie’s rescuer with interest in adopting Sadie.
