Mistaken identity?
by Bruce Felps
I found a postcard-size flier on the front porch this morning from an outfit that goes by TCE.
Nothing new about front-porch fliers, and this one promoted the organization’s stated work on getting a state law passed that requires computer manufacturers to offer free recycling for outdated machines.
According to the flier, the group now wants to require a similar service of television makers, and it’s working a grassroots and letter-writing effort to drum up support.
OK, I’m more than cool with that.
What puzzled me, though, was a line in the flier that read, “I did not find your letters tonight — please send them to our office at your earliest convenience.” However, there was no phone number or address.
Um, excuse me? I didn’t know I was supposed to collect a bunch of letters, and I wondered if somehow this could be a come-on for something.
I contacted state Rep. Allen Vaught’s office, and was told the group, Texas Campaign for the Environment, is, indeed, a legitimate nonprofit organization. So maybe the flier was delivered to the wrong place.
Anybody else get one?

Yeah, you can even write all the letters yourself. I am “the nazi recycler”, but after getting involved with TCE monetarily, now they won’t leave us alone. I don’t mind helping, but it can be annoying to be badgered. Chris also offered for us to write letters – thank goodness we didn’t because they never came back around to us. Huh – maybe you have our postcard!?
