Messy collection defaces White Rock Creek
by Bruce Felps
A late afternoon blog-crawl turned up this pile of rubbish.
It’s a collection of trash accumulated along White Rock Creek near Goforth Road, perhaps washed downstream from father north by the creek and by gully-wash rains … like this afternoon.
This is the kind of stuff faced by For the Love of the Lake every second Saturday of the month when volunteers fan out for the Shoreline Spruce-up at White Rock Lake, only the trash is far more dispersed along the banks of the lake.
It’s also a crushing indictment of the litter-pigs among us. While this won’t cure the problem it might make somebody think twice next time before sullying our streets, neighborhoods, and parks and waterways that run through or near them. If you see someone tossing litter and can identify their license plate data, record the information and log on to Don’t Mess with Texas.
The litter-pig will receive a strongly worded letter, the first time, about the error of his or her ways. The second time, I do believe, that person gets a nice little citation.
We can make a difference … if we make an effort.

In the entry hall to Rainfresh Water is a beautiful sculpture
“The Lady of the Lake” composed in part from reclaimed driftwood from White Rock Lake.
This is one of the most attractive works of art that I have seen and I have requested a 360 degree clip showing the piece.
This will be sent to Steve Nash, founding director of the Nasher Sculpture Gardens, for his comments and recommendations.
The sculpture is the artistic creation of one of Cindy Camp’s sons, who personally gathered the driftwood from the banks of White Rock Lake after floods.

If you peek at the icky trash, you can pretend you’re an archaeologist and look for clues to the identity of the ‘caveman/woman’ who generated it. I’ll bet that name could be reported as well.
