Detour ahead

by Bruce Felps

This one goes out to all the folks who regularly use Garland Road down by the White Rock Lake Spillway as a prime transportation corridor between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. It also goes out to people who might use that stretch of road between the same hours tomorrow and Wednesday, Aug 31 and Sept. 1.

On those nights and mornings, the Santa Fe Trail pedestrian and bike bridge goes in over Garland Road. The construction will happen in two phases, thus two nights and mornings, and it will cause major lane closures along Garland Road between Gaston Avenue and Winsted Drive.

Here are the details as presented by this morning’s Dallas Morning News.

Traffic will still flow, or crawl, through the construction area, although the lane closings will put northbound traffic on the southbound side one night and vice versa the next.

Oh my. That can be a dicey drive under optimal conditions. Add in variables like darkness, diverted traffic patterns, and, God help them, rain, if it occurs, and … well, just be careful.
