Looking ahead
by Bruce Felps
Walkers, wagers, and runners of all manner will descend on the seventh annual Walk, Wag, and Run event put on by the Lakewood Service League.
It doesn’t happen until Oct. 23 — 8 a.m.-noon at Doctors Hospital at White Rock Lake — but planning, sponsorships, booth reservations, and donations are well under way.
The day’s festivities and activities include a 10K run, a 5K run, the Howl-o-Ween Kids Fair — replete with the obligatory bounce houses, costume contests, trick-or-treating, a pumpkin patch, a petting zoo and face painting — a seven-station agility course for the dogs, costume contests, a dog-human lookalike contest, food, and entertainment.
It all serves as a fundraiser for the LSL and its charitable works. This year’s beneficiaries are the YMCA at White Rock, For the Love of the Lake, and Friends of White Rock Lake Dog Park — all worthy causes.
As an added, extra bonus, yours truly and the little staff of East Dallas Times — meaning yours truly — will have a table set up. It would be peachy swell if you stop by for a greet. And, if I have to be up and out there before 7 a.m., you might need to wake me as well.
