Venting
by Bruce Felps, but not really
One of the recent posts about the city budget and how it could affect at least one community center raised the hackles of one reader, a Hollywood-Santa Monica resident, who blew off a little steam in an e-mail message.
The reader-turned-writer requested anonymity, which I will respect. The sentiments left over after trying to deal with the city appear in 3 … 2 … 1 …
The reason the damn city has a budget problem is because they do things like pay $500 apiece for planters to put the damn plants in.
Their stupid vendor system just jacks up the price of things that would normally cost very little. There is absolutely no incentive to find a cheaper price. Now trying to be a vendor is something that is beyond hopeless. I tried and, first of all, getting someone to return your calls is impossible. The meeting I tried to attend, well that’s a story.
I got to city hall and there was a note on the desk saying it had moved to the “blah blah blah” building. The building was offsite, there were no directions. The assumption was you would know where it was. I actually did know where it was and that it would take 20 minutes minimum to get there at which point there would be about 15 minutes of the meeting left.
This is the sort of twisted [ahem, stuff] that goes on. Of course no one bothers to e-mail you and let you know in advance. Then the paperwork, God forbid you try to figure it out. Our city government is what we used to call FUBAR. Everyone has an agenda.
The few people on the council who actually care about the citizens of Dallas are overrun by the rest of the bozos who are simply trying to figure out their next political move.

To ensure you enjoy the ultimate experience, add a large, local school district’s bureaucracy to your mix – I call them the Dynamic Duo! Begging to get paid can be fun…or, maybe not.
