Staff Report
State Rep. Carol Kent — who serves District 102, which includes Lake Highlands — recently conducted the second annual Young Artist Showcase to honor Richardson and Garland school district and private school students who submitted works to the program.
The event took place May 8 at the RISD administrative building and was attended by more than 60 constituents, including about 30 students from schools such as Aikin Elementary, Forestridge Elementary, Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet of RISD, and Akiba Academy, Forest Lane Academy, and Harmony Science Academy among the private schools represented.
Submitted art featured a variety of media — charcoal, pastels, watercolors, and acrylic and oil paintings — and followed this year’s theme, Texas, Our Texas.
After the recognition event, the works go to the state capitol building, where they will remain on exhibit from May 17-26.
Students from area schools who participated in the program were:
- Andrew Martinez of Aikin Elementary;
- Tatu Magahura, Angel Nguyen and Diego Straube of Forestridge Elementary;
- Kaitlyn Blackwell, Abby Gluckman, Zarah Harris, and Lily Rogers of Hamilton Park Pacesetter Magnet;
