Staff Report

Marsyas Redemption, a band comprising Lakehill Preparatory School students, made its stage debut in November during the school’s annual Trek for Tech fundraiser.

Its members kept rocking, changed the band name to The Floor is Lava, polished their sound and stage presence and, last month took their act to a battle of the bands regional competition.

The Floor is Lava — Alex Gilbert, Hagen Hauschild, Austin Simpson, Adam Jilek, and Spence Sandfield  — advanced to the spring finals, which take place this weekend. Judges grade the bands on originality, musicianship, and how many fans they bring to the event — so hello. Supporters should mention The Floor is Lava when they enter.

The next level of competition takes place starting at 7 p.m. — the Lakehill lads are expected to take the stage about 9:30 p.m. — May 8, at The Door in Deep Ellum.

Eight bands will perform, each one advancing from one of four regional competitions. Admission costs $10 at the door and the event is open to all ages.

Hit it, boys.
