Reverend Set to Bring Heat
Staff Report
Hear that? That’s band members of The Reverend Horton Heat tuning up to play tomorrow night’s Shake, Rattle, and Roll fundraiser for Stonewall Jackson Elementary School.
Hey, what’s that sound? Must be The Charming Gardeners — fronted by Zounds Sounds owner Marc Solomon — rehearsing to open the show.
Smell that? That’s the Primo’ Tex-Mex kitchen preparing the catered dinner.
Who’s that guy? He looks familiar. He’s Rob McCollum, co-host of “Good Morning, Texas” on WFAA-TV (Channel 8) and Stonewall dad who will serve as the evening’s emcee.
What’s all that stuff? That’s a trip to Sweden, a dine-around Dallas restaurant package, diamond jewelry, tickets to the 2010 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament and New York City hotel accommodations, art by local visual artist Reinhart Ziegler, travel packages to Akumal, Mexico, and Vail, Colo., kids’ birthday parties with pizza and cake, a wine fridge with two cases of wine, and romantic weekend getaways — all part of the live and silent auctions at the event.
It all takes place starting at 6 p.m., May 1, at Life in Deep Ellum, on Taylor Street. The evening — which includes two concerts, dinner, dancing, auctions, and general merriment — costs 50 bucks a head. See if you could get that kind of value on the general nightlife economy. Tickets are available online.
Can we get an amen?
