Languishing in hockey hell
By Bruce Felps
So, last night I watched the better part of the round two Western Conference Stanley Cup Playoffs game between the San Jose Sharks — now up 1-0 in the series — and the Detroit Red Wings.
Being a Dallas Stars fan, I had majorly conflicting emotions. I hate both teams, although I must admit to a begrudging respect for the Wings. But which team would I like to see win this round and move on to the Western Conference Finals?
Talk about damned either way.
I’m thinking — and this is kind of psychological warfare on my part — let’s go Sharks, although I hate that stupid Shark-bite gesture the fans make when San Jose goes on the power play. Bush-leaguers.
Anyway, a Sharks win would end the Wings run of two consecutive Cup Finals appearances and maybe plant the seed that their run is over. Then, I hope the Sharks get swept in four by the winner of the Vancouver Canucks-Chicago Blackhawks matchup. That might just tattoo the Sharks with the playoff-loser stamp they’ve been working on for the past few years.
With those two mental bombs dropped on two of Dallas’ main rivals, it could help clear the path for the Stars to get back to the Cup Finals — ya know, after they’re good again.
