Gauging interest, use
By Bruce Felps
Today’s mail just arrived, and it included a form letter and accompanying survey from the Dallas postmaster.
About a month ago, we mentioned speculation swirling about the possible closing of the Belmont post office, located on Belmont Avenue about half a block west of Greenville Avenue.
Looks like that speculation was fairly well founded because the form letter and accompanying survey have everything to do with the possible shuttering of the station.
“The reduced workload and the fact that we have other stations located within a five-mile radius suggest [OK, I corrected the verb tense] that the continuation of the Belmont station may not be warranted,” the postmaster wrote in the form letter.
Those other two post office locations? The Lakewood station, which is 1.36 miles from the Belmont station, and the Oak Lawn office, which is 3.83 miles away.
Yes, Mr. Postmaster, it’s less than four miles away, but it’s on the other side of Central Expressway.

I’ve always used the Lakewood Station. The two are close together, so I sort of see the justification of closing one or the other. Although in this time, I hate to see anything close.

There are also post offices at Greenville and Lovers (2.3 miles from Belmont) and on Haskell between Worth and Victor (2.4 miles)

there’s also at least a mini-station at hillside village.
