Jenny Livengood

The illustrations in the recently released children’s book “I Can Love You Mommy” might look familiar to some Lakehill Preparatory School students and parents.

That’s because the illustrator is Lakehill third-grade teacher Jenny Livengood.

The book, written by Mary Beth Gresham, is a story about children with special needs. Livengood, whose nephew was born with special needs, said the book has come to mean a great deal to her.

“I Can Love You Mommy” will be featured this week at Lakehill’s Spring Book Fair and may be purchased for $10 by cash or check. The book is also available on amazon.com, at select bookstores in the area.

Livengood is now working on illustrations for other books by Gresham as well as for a book by Lakehill parent Margi Evans. She hopes to finish the illustrations during the summer.

Livengood said she has always had a love for drawing. Although she has never taken art classes, she never misses out on the opportunity to just doodle.

“I used to write in my school journals that I wanted to be an illustrator and a teacher when I grew up,” she said. “I guess I am on the right track.”

She just might be on the fast track to success in children’s literature.
