Shake It Up, Stonewall, Now
Staff Report
The Stonewall Jackson Elementary School PTA plans the biggest fundraising event in the school’s history, according to organizers.
The Shake, Rattle, and Roll 2010 Auction and Concert happens at 6 p.m., May 1, at Life in Deep Ellum, on Taylor Street.
In addition to the auction, the evening includes two concerts — one by The Charming Gardeners with Zounds Sounds owner Marc Solomon and the main event performed by The Reverend Horton Heat, which includes Stonewall Dad Jimbo Wallace.
Primo’s Tex-Mex restaurant caters dinner, and the silent auction includes a trip to Sweden, a dine-around Dallas restaurant package, diamond jewelry, tickets to the 2010 U.S. Open Tennis Tournament and hotel accommodations in New York City, art by local visual artist Reinhart Ziegler, travel packages to Akumal, Mexico, and Vail, Colo., kids’ birthday parties with pizza and cake, a wine fridge with two cases of wine, and romantic weekend getaways.
Tickets to the casual-dress affair cost $50 for individual seats. The prices includes dinner, silent and live auctions, and full concert. Full table reservations also are available for $1,000, which includes 10 tickets to the auction, dinner, drinks, full concert, an exclusive dining table, and a touch-screen bidding computer for the duration of the auction.
Proceeds, of course, go to Stonewall educational programs and campus improvements.
“With the recent DISD budget shortfall, our school has experienced devastating cut-backs, with a more than 50 percent cut in the annual budget,” Kelly Newman, Stonewall PTA president, said in a press release. “The loss was not simply in the school’s operating budget, but several relevant teaching positions were eliminated, including our outdoor science instructor and our computer technology instructor. This year, our mission is, therefore, to generate incremental funding for Stonewall Jackson educational services in order to ensure our children receive the best possible public education.”
