East Dallas Times two-step
— By Bruce Felps
Wow, page views today skyrocketed because my former boss and now-friend Steve Crozier sent out a Daily Digest-like element to all the subscribers of the dearly departed Black White Read. Thank you, Steve.
Now that you know in which dark alley I lurk, I thought I’d clear up a little something that might cause confusion for prospective subscribers.
Subscribing to the auto-e-mail alerts and opting for a paid subscription are two different things. One does not trigger the other.
The free e-mail alerts — you know, like the Daily Digest — happen by clicking on the “Sign me up” button at the top-middle of the front page. Select “Daily” under the “Manage” function there to receive one message containing all the previous day’s posts rather then getting hit up with a message every time I publish a new story. Some people found that annoying. I can’t imagine why.
The paid subscriptions — the ones that keep this humble little community news site going — come from one of two blue links underneath that button.
Below the “Information Pages” section, you’ll see a link to “Annual $60 subscription” and one to “Monthly $5 Subscription.” Choose the level at which you wish to subscribe and follow the PayPal steps.
People who’d rather mail a check can do so to:
East Dallas Times
4221 Bryan St., Suite B
Dallas (no kidding?) 75204
E-mail me or call me at (214) 264-5598 if you have any questions.
I hope that clears up things, and thank you for your support. Geez, why am I channeling Bartles and Jaymes?

Suggestion: remove the “paid subscription of $5/month” text from the “SUBSCRIBE” section. Very confusing.

My wife and I moved to Nashville, so we are very glad to still be receiving Lakewood info. We often talk to our friends there and visit quite a bit. We will look to your advertisers when in big “D”.

I’m a little confused on the difference between the free e-mails and the paid subscriptions besides just keeping you in business. Do paid subscribers receive different news?

Kim, honestly, no, it’s the same stuff. In theory, it’s very KERA-like. Anybody can tune to channel 13 and watch whatever they want but to keep the station on the air, viewers pledge … or pay for a subscription in this case.
